As reported by VR Scout, "the Force" fans can celbrate for good cause: Star Wars VR Centers are coming to Downtown Disney and Disney Springs! In an August 3rd article by writer Jonathan Nafarrete, it was announced that the untethered multi-sensory VR experience will let users interact with friends and Star Wars characters.
"Lucasfilm, ILMxLAB and The VOID are opening Star Wars hyper-reality experience centers this holiday season. Announced today, the Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire immersive experience centers will be open to the public at Downtown Disney (Disneyland Resort) and Disney Springs (Walt Disney World Resort) beginning this holiday season.
In collaboration with The VOID and ILMxLAB, Lucasfilm’s immersive entertainment division, the duo has created a first of its kind experience that will have you plunging directly into the iconic Star Wars galaxy.
We already know The VOID has the chops to create some pretty killer hyper-reality experience centers, combining the magic of illusions, sensory feedback, and VR to transport you into entirely new worlds. So we can expect to see a Star Wars experience that will let you to freely roam in an untethered VR headset, where you can touch out and feel virtual objects, walk alongside your real-life friends, and hopefully fend off Stormtroopers with a blaster.
The VOID combines physical sets with real-time interactive effects, playing off all your senses, and making guests all active participants within an unfolding story experience—in this case Star Wars. And with partners like Lucasfilm, you can be sure that the storytelling, imagery, and even immersive sound from the team at Skywalker Sound will make this one experience fans will appreciate.
“A truly transformative experience is so much more than what you see with your eyes; it’s what you hear, feel, touch, and even smell,” said Curtis Hickman, co-founder and chief creative officer at The VOID in a statement. “Through the power of The VOID, guests who step into Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire won’t just see this world, they’ll know that they are part of this amazing story.”
Last Summer, The VOID opened its first public experience at Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum in NYC for Ghostbusters: Dimension, where we found ourselves shoulder to shoulder with friends, firing proton-packs at giant winged ghouls flying overhead. Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire marks an important milestone in the expansion of The VOID, which also joined the 2017 Disney Accelerator earlier this year."
